First some music to set the mood.

For some reason I am extremely old-fashioned and conservative in almost all contexts; of religions I prefer one so old it is actually long gone; if I could afford it I would buy100 identical sets of cloths so that I could wear and look the same every single day of my life the rest of my life; I dislike the fact that my hair and beard grows, because it makes me look different from week to week; when I buy a car I only think of whether or not the car will last until I die; I try desperately not to change any habits: I try to make every single day just like the day before, so naturally I strongly dislike Week-ends and holidays; if I could I would speak the language my most distant forebears spoke, and when I cannot it troubles me every now and then… I could go on, but I think I made my point; I don’t like changes, I liked the way it was or used to be and try my best to keep the good in life.

Why don’t I like changes? Well, first of all because I know what I have, but not what I will get if I change that, and also because almost all changes are for the worse! Nothing ever seems to get better, so why not just keep it the way it is instead? If we have something good, why not do our best to protect it, preserve it and make it last forever?

«If you don’t get what you want, you suffer; if you get what you don’t want, you suffer; even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can’t hold on to it forever. Your mind is your predicament. It wants to be free of change. Free of pain, free of the obligations of life and death. But change is law and no amount of pretending will alter that reality.» (Sokrates)

Nothing lasts forever. And what good we have will soon be gone, because all change seems to be for the worse….

But… what if that changes too? If change is law then why not make changes for the better only? We can if we will.
